Fix the Windows XP Installer
In Windows XP, there are some common problems with the Microsoft Installer. In some cases, when installing software you may see error messags such as the following:
"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."
The installer can get damaged for several reasons, but you can try the fix below. It will repair the installer service for most situations.
Note: You will need to be logged in as administrator.
- Click Start -> Run
- Open a command prompt by typing "cmd", then click OK
- In the command prompt, type the following commands (without the quotes)
- "msiexec.exe /unregister", then hit Enter
- "msiexec /regserver", then hit Enter
This should fixup your Windows XP Installer problems.
